By: Nathan Knightley

A lot of Americans don't cook well. That's right, they live full lives. Often they don't have time to think about home cooking. Quick, healthy, inexpensive meals aren't easy to plan, that's the problem. People who have trouble with this, however, must not be paying much attention. A seven day menu isn't all that hard to plan for people who know where to look. The entire family will like these dinner ideas.

Corn dogs are an all American tradition, usually served at state fairs and by street vendors. While not a healthy food, it is a tasty one that is easy to prepare. Make a batter with some flour, corn meal, salt, sugar and baking powder mixed with milk, dip the hot dogs and then deep fry them until the batter is golden brown. If you want the feel of the fair, insert a popsicle stick.

Way back when, in colonial times, dinner was a lighter snack followed by supper later in the day. Over time this was adjusted according to the needs of social class and work type. People who performed manual labor continued with the tradition of dinner to keep up their energy. As times change and we move away from regular meals at home, dinner has become the anchor that keeps families together and signals the end of the out of the home portion of the day and the beginning of at home leisure time. Most people call the big meal either or both of supper or dinner. That doesn't mean the meal has to be large, especially for people watching their waist lines. Go the traditional dinner route with a light soup or roast chicken salad.

Busy schedules and crock pots were made for each other. Add the ingredients, set it on low in the morning, so by dinner time the food is ready to eat. Great food is possible in a crock pot, the entire meal too. Try pot roast and potatoes. Pick up some salad and a fresh loaf of bread at the store. Or you can ditch the bread to keep down the pounds.

The possibilities are endless with simple but delicious meals like veal cutlets, pork chops, even steaks on the grill. Search for the term dinner ideas on a search engine like Google. The Internet is loaded with them.
