Can Male Breast Reduction Help You?

There are a variety of different medical conditions affecting the millions of people within the United States and the majority of them have solutions or remedies to fix these medical conditions. Not all medical conditions though last a long time or even for more than one month. There are some medical conditions that show up and disappear within a couple of weeks. It just takes a little while to work its way through the body.

One of the conditions that fits into this category is gynecomastia or excess amounts of fat or breast tissue in the chest or breast region of men. This condition can be treated and practically cured with a male breast reduction procedure.

Most men that have this problem can have it fixed with a male breast reduction. This condition can affect both or only one breast and it quite common among men as it affects anywhere from 40-60 percent of the male population, most notably in adolescent boys. The symptoms of this condition can disappear within a matter of months.

There are a variety of potential causes of gynecomastia. They are puberty, steroid abuse, obesity, tumors, genetic disorders, chronic liver disease, side effects of many medications, castration, Klinefelter syndrome, Gilberts syndrome and aging. Other causes of this condition can be the use of certain drugs such as estrogen, marijuana, heroin, alcohol and valium.

A male breast reduction helps to remove fat and tissue from the breasts and can also remove excess skin, which results in a flatter and firmer chest. Before jumping the gun and deciding to have this procedure performed one should exhaust all other possibly ways of getting rid of the problem. Options other than surgery are dieting, exercise, a healthy diet and other lifestyle changes.

As with most surgeries there are a variety of risks involved with having this procedure performed. Such risks are infection, excessive bleeding, skin injury, excessive fluid loss or accumulation and a reaction to the anesthesia. The surgery could also leave permanent scars near the chest, a different pigmented skin and even slightly mismatched nipples or breasts.

Anyone considering a male breast reduction procedure should first consult their doctor for a more definitive list of side effects, the best way to go about having the procedure and the best way to recover from the procedure properly.

Recovery time can take anywhere from 1 to 5 days but should not take any longer than that. Most people can return to work within 2 days of having the surgery and the stitches will be removed roughly one to two weeks from the time of the surgery.

Patients having this procedure performed need to keep sunshine from hitting the areas of the body that have scars for at least six months. Physical activity that could bother the area of surgery should be avoided for at least one month. Heavy exercise in general should be avoided for at least three weeks following the surgery. Results will vary for each patient but are usually quite successful.
